From the shores of the Aegean to the rugged terrain of eastern Anatolia<\/a>, researchers across T\u00fcrkiye<\/a> have identified 13 previously unknown plant<\/a> species.<\/p>\n Published in the inaugural e-bulletin of the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry\u2019s Nature Conservation and National Parks General Directorate, the findings highlight the extraordinary ecological richness across the nation\u2019s diverse climate zones.<\/p>\n Botanists discovered a new onion species in eastern Anatolia, while southwestern Anatolia yielded oriental bindweed and cornflower. The eastern province of Elaz\u0131\u011f recorded onion, rock mustard, hyacinth and star tulip. Teams found bellflower in the eastern province of Bitlis, mountain thyme in the southern province of Hatay and globe flower in the southwestern province of Mu\u011fla.<\/p>\n Researchers also identified crane\u2019s-bill subspecies at Akda\u011f in the western province of \u0130zmir, elderberry in the northeastern province of Artvin and forget-me-not in northern T\u00fcrkiye. These discoveries add to the 13,000 plant species, including 4,000 endemics, registered in the country.<\/p>\n Botanists across the country are compiling the \u201cIllustrated Flora of T\u00fcrkiye Project,\u201d supported by the Ali Nihat G\u00f6kyi\u011fit Foundation under presidential auspices.
