Agustín Escobar, the president and CEO of Siemens in Spain, was killed along with his wife and three children in a tragic helicopter crash over the Hudson River on Thursday, according to The New York Post. The family had recently arrived in New York from Barcelona for a vacation when the crash occurred near Manhattan’s Pier 40.
Authorities confirmed that four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others died later at the hospital. The pilot’s identity has not been released. The couple’s children were all of middle school age or younger. A photo circulating online shows the family of five posing in front of the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter prior to takeoff.
Who Was Agustín Escobar?
Escobar had served as the CEO of Siemens Spain and Siemens Mobility Southwest Europe since December 2022. A graduate in industrial engineering from Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, he brought over 25 years of experience in the energy and transportation sectors, leading teams across the U.S., Latin America, and Spain.
Throughout his career, Escobar held several senior leadership roles within Siemens. He was previously CEO of the Energy Management Division and Infrastructure & Cities Sector in Latin America, and earlier, Corporate Director of Strategy and International Business Development in North America.
The names of Escobar’s wife and children have not been publicly disclosed. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
