James McAvoy spotted filming in Glasgow for upcoming series
Hollywood actor James McAvoy has been spotted in his home city of Glasgow as he films for an upcoming series. The A-lister was spotted in the area of Glasgow Royal Infirmary this week – although he was harder to recognise in full costume, wearing what appeared to be a hospital gown and sitting in a wheelchair.
It is understood that Drumchapel-raised McAvoy is filming for upcoming Sky crime drama and dark comedy Meantime, based on the novel by Frankie Boyle. Meantime tells the story of Felix McAveety (played by McAvoy), a drug addict and alcoholic whose life turns upside down when his best pal is found murdered in a Glasgow park.
The series is due to be released in 2027.
McAvoy was spotted filming a scene outside the Royal Infirmary, leaving locals “starstruck” to see him. One Glasgow woman even got a nod and an ‘awright?’ from McAvoy as she passed by the set just off Castle Street.

Sharing two videos on TikTok on Wednesday (June 3) of the scene being shot and of her quick encounter with McAvoy, the local said: “I only went and bumped into James.”
She added: “He actually said ‘awrite’… startruck.”
Meantime will consist of six episodes, each approximately an hour long. McAvoy will be joined by castmates Jamie Michie (Hijack, Karen Pirie), Shauna MacDonald (The Descent, Shetland), Josette Simon (Blake’s 7, Wonder) and more in the series.
You can find out more about Meantime on the Sky website.
