A West London mum is set to take on the gruelling 100k Ultra Challenge to help raise money for the charity she credits for helping save her daughter’s life.
Mamta Sohal, 56, from Ealing, is set to tackle the Lake District Ultra Challenge this weekend with her sister-in-law, Dejani, by her side. Mamta will be taking part in the challenge over the weekend (June 6 to 7) to raise money for the London Air Ambulance.
London Air Ambulance were called to help Mamta’s daughter, Eshana, after she was hit by a motorcycle while out running. It left her with life-threatening injuries, and due to the severity, the air ambulance was called, and she was taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
She spent seven weeks in hospital in an induced coma and then a further seven weeks undergoing intensive neurorehabilitation at a hospital in Wellington.
She said: “We nearly lost Eshana that day. The care she received from London Air Ambulance and the team at St Mary’s was nothing short of extraordinary.
“She has shown incredible resilience and strength throughout her recovery, and I couldn’t be prouder to be her mum.

“This will be tough, but it’s nothing compared to what Eshana has been through. If we can help raise awareness and support the incredible work of the air ambulance, every step will be worth it.”
The Lake District Ultra Challenge will see thousands of participants walk, jog or run distances of up to 100km through some of the UK’s most scenic terrain. The challenge takes you through beautiful national parks and nature reserves.
The London Lift
Stories of local heroes and people making are difference are some of what MyLondon loves to cover most. We have a great city, here – and yet, if you go online and you weren’t familiar with London, you might think it’s not great.
London gets a disproportionate amount of criticism, particularly over how allegedly ‘dangerous’ it is. Don’t get us wrong, the city has problems. But the next time someone says they’re steering clear of it, remind them that 2025 recorded the lowest homicides since monthly records began.
You might also want to point them to MyLondon and, more specifically, our new project, The London Lift.
London is home to 9 million people with amazing and uplifting stories, but too often we hear the bad parts of people’s lives. Be it injuries, financial loss, or vulnerable tenants at war with their landlords, we’re no stranger to these stories and will keep reporting them.
But we also love positive news, which is why we’ve decided to bring you a story every weekend that focuses on the good, the better, and the best that London has to offer.
Over the next few months, we will be speaking to Londoners about their positive news, to shine a light on human-led tales.
If you have something you’d like to share please email me directly at rafi.benady@reachplc.com , or our main newsdesk at newsdesk@mylondon.news.
We can’t promise we can tell every story, but please do not be afraid to share your news – there’s no such thing as a stupid message.
