American fried chicken giant Popeyes has confirmed the dates and precise locations of three of its new West Midlands stores, including its first ever UK drive-thru.

The UK branch of Popeyes announced a major expansion last month, confirming the launch of five new Birmingham restaurants, as well as a first-of-its-kind drive-thru in Wednesbury.

The fast food chain, known for its Louisiana-style fried chicken, has now confirmed that its new Tyseley site will also be a drive-thru restaurant, with the first of the local branches scheduled to open before the end of the month.

The restaurants at Birmingham’s Fort Shopping Park and in Wednesbury will be the first to open at 11am on Friday, May 23, followed by the Tyseley drive-thru at 11am on Monday, June 2.

The trio will mark Popeyes’ 17th, 18th and 19th new openings of the year, with further new sites at Birmingham Airport, New Street Station and Perry Barr expected to launch later in 2025.

Bosses have also confirmed the addresses of the new neighbourhood branches – the Wednesbury drive-thru will be situated at Gallagher Retail Park in Axletree Way and Tyseley’s will be in Battery Way.

Popeyes already operates a popular restaurant on New Street in the city centre, which attracted overnight queues when it first opened back in August 2024.

To celebrate its expansion, Popeyes will be hosting launch day giveaways at its new sites, with the first four people arriving on foot and the first four customers pulling into the ‘park and serve’ bays at The Fort being promised free chicken sandwiches for a year.

The first 100 people in the queue will also bag themselves one free chicken sandwich.

At the launch of the new Wednesbury and Tyseley drive-thrus, the first three on foot and the first three to pull up in the drive-thru will also take home free chicken sandwiches for a year, while the first 50 in each queue will get one free chicken sandwich.

Across all three locations, the first 50 customers will also receive exclusive Popeyes UK merchandise.

Given the popularity of its previous restaurant openings, bosses are advising customers to get down there early to avoid missing out.

Diners will be able to order Popeyes fan-favourites like those iconic chicken sandwiches, hot wings, tenders and signature chicken wraps, as well as the new Saucin’ Boneless and Hot Wings range.

All of Popeyes’ chicken is halal-certified and marinated for 12 hours in its signature bold Louisiana seasoning, then hand-breaded and battered for its signature ‘shatter crunch’.

Popeyes’ breakfast menu will be available from the day after launch at all three locations, served daily from 8am to 11am.

Tom Crowley, Popeyes UK’s chief executive officer, said: “We’re really excited to be opening three new restaurants across Birmingham this May and June.

“The West Midlands has shown so much support for Popeyes already, so we’re thrilled to be expanding our footprint in the area and bringing our famous shatter-crunching chicken sandwiches to even more locals.”
