A Woolton Village venue has unveiled a new beer garden – just in time for the bank holiday weekend. Located in the heart of the historic village, Botanico is popular for its breakfast and brunch menu, as well as afternoon tea, gelato, coffee and pastries.

The restaurant and bar has now opened a beer garden area which is family and dog friendly. With an extensive wine list and cocktail menu, the restaurant’s owners will be hoping the al fresco area will become a much-loved spot in south Liverpool.

Donato Cillo, owner of Botanico, said: “We’ve been working behind the scenes to create a dedicated space for when the sun is shining and we’re so proud to share our beautiful beer garden.

“From an ice cold pint to your favourite cocktail, or a beautiful glass of wine from our extensive list, it’s the perfect place to catch up with friends, enjoy the sunshine with family or make the most of date night and we look forward to welcoming all of our guests throughout the summer.”

Woolton was named the best place to live in the North West in the annual Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide.

Woolton was described by judges as “an independent-minded village” with cool coffee shops, an incredible cheese shop and a fantastic neighbourhood pub.

The Sunday Times judges said: “Everything is within walking distance in the Liverpool suburb where Lennon and McCartney met for the first time. Its independent-minded village centre has cool coffee shops, a formidable fromagerie and cocktail bars, as well as a belting neighbourhood boozer in the Elephant Pub and Bakehouse. It’s a gloriously family-friendly place to put down roots, with excellent schools, parks and even a patch of woodland.”

‌There are more new entries than ever before in this year’s guide and no place for many previous winners including York, Winchester, in Hampshire, and Altrincham, in Cheshire. The judges looked for “thriving locations with a strong sense of community” rather than famous names with high house prices.

Previous winners of the Best Places to Live in Britain title are Altrincham, Cheshire (2020) Stroud, Gloucestershire (2021), Ilkley, West Yorkshire (2022) Wadhurst, East Sussex (2023), and North Berwick, East Lothian (2024). This year’s guide is sponsored by the mortgage lender Halifax, which has provided an average house price for each location.

Six other locations in the North West are included in the comprehensive guide, which named Saffron Walden in Essex as the best place to live in the UK. The Sunday Times judges chose the genteel market town for its knockout historic looks with excellent state schools, rich cultural offering and an exploding foodie scene as well as its convenient commuter links to both London and Cambridge.

‌To celebrate the opening of the new space, Botanico is offering customers two for £15 on selected Spritz drinks including Aperol Spritz, Campari Spritz and Sarti Spritz between Monday to Friday from 3-7pm.

There’s also a beer offer of two pints for £10 including Angelo Poretti or Thatcher’s Ambr Cider, every day from 3pm until the venue closes. No bookings are required for Botanico’s beer garden.
