Leeds United are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer in attack, particularly in the wide areas. They could turn attention back to Harry Wilson as a result.

Willy Gnonto looks as though he will move on in the summer, whilst Dan James struggled with injuries last season and was ineffective when he did play.

Brenden Aaronson’s work off the ball was useful last season. But, we all know by now that the American lacks that quality we need in the final third. And for as good as Noah Okafor was, the Swiss winger struggles to get through a full game and frequently picks up little injuries here and there.

Gordon Strachan believes Harry Wilson would be a “great signing” for Leeds United

Leeds legend Gordon Strachan has identified a winger who would add that extra bit of quality to Daniel Farke’s forward line. In turn, the 49ers should be doing everything in their power to get a deal done for him done.

The 49ers agonisingly missed out on securing Harry Wilson’s signature last summer on deadline day when Fulham pulled the plug on the £10million deal at the last minute.

Of course, in typical Leeds fashion, Wilson would go on to enjoy the season of his life at Fulham. He scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 36 Premier League appearances last season.

The Welshman would represent a dramatic upgrade on Aaronson out on the right wing for Leeds. The 29-year-old also has the ability to operate as a number ten.

Speaking to Andy’s Bet Club (via LeedsLive), Strachan claimed that Wilson would be an exceptional signing for Leeds if they could get a deal done, with his contract at Fulham expiring at the end of the month.

“Harry Wilson to Leeds United? There are 10 goals a season in there. I think he’d be a great signing,” Strachan said. “He can score 10 goals a season in the Premier League, and he’s free; that’s definitely something to be looked at. Absolutely. He’s a guy who’s taken a while to find his feet. He wasn’t a superstar kid, but now he looks to be a real asset.

“He looks to have taken responsibility at Fulham, and he is a feared Premier League forward now, on the right side of the box, he is a big threat.”

If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about providing that spark in the final third at Elland Road, it’s Stachan. The 49ers could do a lot worse than to listen to his advice.

Leeds United should offer Harry Wilson a massive contract this summer

With Fulham unsurprisingly offering their talisman a new deal and reports suggesting Aston Villa and Everton are interested in Wilson, getting a deal over the line will be far from straightforward.

But if you’re the 49ers, nothing is stopping you from offering Wilson a massive contract as an incentive to join the Whites, with the player being available on a free transfer.

Wilson is a Premier League-proven player in his prime who fits the exact profile the Whites are seeking: a left-footed right winger.

Of course, offering Wilson a massive contract would not guarantee he would join United. However, 49ers will know that they have done all they can to bring the winger to West Yorkshire.

If Wilson joined Villa instead, it would be hard to begrudge him. Unai Emery is a world-class manager that can promise of Champions League football next season.

But by no means should Leeds just roll over and accept defeat, and even if we have to offer Wilson an inflated wage due to his free agent status, he could end up being Farke’s first choice right winger for the next three years at least.
