A mum has told of how her teenage daughter was ‘jumped’ by a group of youths in a park and left ‘covered in blood’ after being ‘yanked to the ground, punched and pushed into the grass’.

Melissa Morris’s 14-year-old daughter Caitlin was left with multiple injuries including scratch marks to her arms, ripped leggings and a bleeding lip after the assault at the Bredbury Recreation Ground off Stockport Road East on Monday night (May 12).

The mum, who says she is now ‘terrified’ in her own home, claims the incident erupted after a petty dispute between two different friendship groups of children in the local area but that her daughter was not directly involved, however still told her daughter to come home.

But after not hearing back from her and her phone calls not being answered, Melissa drove to the nearby park and claimed that she found her daughter ‘covered in blood’ after being ‘jumped’ – with the incident being filmed on a mobile phone.

Speaking to the M.E.N, she said: “I had a bad feeling about it all, and told my daughter to come home. As I rang, it went to voicemail.

“I got in the car with my partner and younger child to go to the park to get her and a gent pulled onto my street who are neighbours to the rec.

“My daughter jumped out absolutely covered in blood. I was distraught and put her in the car. She told me she had been attacked and had her phone stolen.”

Melissa rang the police who attended the park, before going back to her family home. Footage was later shared with her of the moment her daughter was seen being attacked by the group of older children.

“Caitlin explained she was on the rec with her friends when a load of girls and boys came running on, recording her and asking ‘who had been chatting s***’.

“They all jumped on her and started leathering her. When they got off her, they then attacked her friend who was trying to help.

“They were punching her and kicking her and screaming in her face. They yanked her phone away, they split her lip open and gave her bruising to her eye and legs.

“Her lips are swollen and blue, she had hand prints and bruising to her body after they yanked her off a bench to the floor and pushed her head into the grass sideways.

“She had several lumps all over her head and they ripped clumps of her hair out.

“I feel terrified in our own home. Why should we live in fear when we’ve lived here five years? My daughter has been traumatised.

“It wasn’t just the cry of a child who was upset. She was in complete distress. It could’ve been so much worse. It could only take one wrong stamp to the head and the kid would be dead. It could’ve been my daughter.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called at around 9pm, and that a 13-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been bailed. The force says enquiries are ongoing.
