The new signings the 49ers made last summer were instrumental in the success Leeds United enjoyed upon their return to the Premier League.

The likes of Gabriel Gudmundsson, James Justin and Jaka Bijol all bolstered United’s defence, with all three players being relied upon for large stages of last season.

At the attacking end of the pitch, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor all scored important goals to help keep the Whites in the top flight.

Anton Stach’s signing proved to be an incredibly shrewd piece of business from Leeds United

However, it is a midfield signing that Leeds made last year that has arguably aged the best. That’s especially given one of the latest major Premier League transfer updates.

When Anton Stach walked through the door at Elland Road, nobody could’ve imagined the impact the German international would have.

The 27-year-old completley revolutionised our midfield, ending the season with five goals and three assists in 29 Premier League appearances.

For my money, he’s the best technical player we have at the club. Stach has constantly provided that much-needed spark in the final third whilst also being incredibly effective off the ball.

Leeds secured all this for an initial £17.3million fee, which could rise to £19.9million if all add-ons are met.

This is extraordinary when you consider how much players in Stach’s position are being touted for this summer. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is subject of a bid worth over £120million after add-ons, according to David Ornstein.

Of course, it’s not hard to argue that Anderson is a better player than Stach. Although, there’s no way his value should be over six times higher than what we paid for our free-kick-scoring German.

We all want Stach to be running the Whites’ engine room for many years to come. Though, the extraordinary amount of money being thrown at Forest for Anderson’s services will certainly give Leeds confidence.

Let’s say Stach enjoys another campaign equally as impressive as last season. Like it or not, he will likely be the subject of interest from elsewhere.

But given the current price of midfielders, especially Premier League proven ones, Leeds would seemingly be able to make a gigantic profit on the initial fee they paid for Stach should he eventually leave.

Would Stach be worth over £120million like Anderson?

Absolutely not. Anderson’s age, 23, is a big contributing factor in his mammoth evaluation by Forest.

But from a Leeds perspective, if they did end up forking out £19.9million for Stach after add-ons, there’s no reason as to why the 49ers couldn’t at least triple their return on investment should he leave West Yorkshire.

No one associated with Leeds will want Stach to leave. But, Anderson’s transfer saga will give the Whites confidence that if someone does want to take one of our midfield generals, then it will cost a hefty fee.
