Having a smart watch can be an excellent companion device for a mobile phone. Even if you’re not using it to track workouts, reading notifications from your wrist instead of having to get your phone out every time can be a huge time saver.

While you can easily spend hundreds of pounds on the likes of an Apple, Samsung or Galaxy Watch, you don’t need to do so to get a watch that does the basics right. An Amazon gem has just dropped from an already cheap price to one that’s even more affordable.

Normally £59.99, Amazon has just slashed the price of the LODIMEKE smart watch down to £21.98 for a limited time only. With a 4.2 star review score overall, it sports many of the same feature’s you’d expect to find on a more expensive wearable gadget.

The design is very reminiscent of an Apple Watch with a square display flanked by a metal casing. It carries a water proof rating of IP68, which means it can be submerged in water without getting damaged, perfect for tracking swim workouts.

Speaking of workouts, it comes preloaded with a bunch of activities ready to track, including both running and cycling. A heart rate monitor tracks how hard you’re working during these activities, helping you train more effectively for your next event.

Even if you’re not intending to use it for sports, there are other health features that you might benefit from. A sleep and stress monitor lets you know when something might not be quite right with your health, indicating when you’ve had restless nights or something might be bothering you during the day.

When paired to a mobile phone, you’re able to see notifications come in on your wrist, with Android users able to reply straight from the watch. A microphone and speaker also let you take calls directly from the watch if you’d like to.

The main feature that this watch is missing is GPS, which means it won’t be able to track your location while out running or cycling. If you’re someone who uploads their activities to Strava regularly, you might want to look elsewhere.

On the Android side, the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 is a fantastic budget option if you’re looking to get the most for your money. It includes GPS, a heart rate monitor and a blood oxygen sensor for £56.99.

If you’d rather stick with something in the iOS ecosystem, the cheapest Apple Watch you can get is the SE model for £219. However, the Series 10 has just seen a huge price cut to £329 if you can stretch your budget that far.

Amazon customers have rated the LODIMEKE smart watch with 4.2 stars overall, with one customer review reading: “I have had other more expensive exercise and health watches and this watch performs better than any of them. It’s fantastic value for money, is loaded with easy to find settings and is so easy to record and review all results.”

A second reviewer said: “Bought for my wife. She loves it. Works very well. No faults. Battery life around 6/7 days in reality. Worth every penny.”

Another happy shopper added: “I’ve been an Apple Watch user for a few years now (just the basic SE model) and recently I have had the opportunity to try a couple of third party smartwatches. I have to say this is the first time I have been genuinely impressed with the form factor of one of these. This thing is practically the same dimensions as my Apple one which in my mind gives it a more sleek look than many of the bulky watches out there.”

However, one customer said that you get what you pay for at this budget: “I mainly use it for notifications when I can not keep my phone nearby. The flip to wake feature is a bit hit and miss, you need to flick your wrist a second time to wake the screen.”

Someone else had some similar constructive criticism to add, writing: “It has no always-on display option and the flip your wrist to get it to turn on is slow and inconsistent.”
