An independent family-run Bristol coffee and sandwich shop has closed its doors for good less than a year after opening.
Fika, which was located on Broad Quay in the former home of Chinese restaurant and cocktail bar Dao Chao, and bar venue Aluna, appeared to be locked up this week with a notice in the window stating the premises had been taken back by the landlord.
There is now a ‘To Let’ sign in place and the interior appears to have been completely stripped out when BristolLive visited.
Fika opened in late July 2025 serving up its signature ‘Fikaccias‘, as well as baps, jacket potatoes, salad bowls, and a range of hot and cold drinks.
Founded by husband-and-wife duo Peyman Karami and Pampi Khamluean, the name Fika was said to be inspired by the Swedish tradition of ‘slowing down, connecting with others, and enjoying good food and coffee’ – a philosophy the owners said was at the very core of the new cafe.

Several notices have been put up in the window of the closed-up site from West Country Bailiffs, which states that as of June 2 “these premises have this day been taken into possession of the landlord by peaceable re-entry”.
A second notice ‘imposing obligation to collect goods’ is also in place, however is addressed to ‘Dao Chow Limited’. The previous business housed at this address was named ‘Dao Chao’ – a Chinese restaurant that served bottomless brunches and cocktails.
The Chinese restaurant closed its doors suddenly, with the restaurant seemingly having been stripped of furniture, bar and fittings when BristolLive reported its closure in October 2024, after having opened in January of the same year, following the closure of the popular Aluna bar on December 31, 2023.

Aluna had resided in this location for around eight years, having opened back in 2015. It was known and loved for its Pan Asian menu, bottomless brunches and decor worthy of many a selfie.
On Google, Fika is now listed as ‘permanently closed’ and Deliveroo states that ‘Fika isn’t currently accepting orders’. However no official statement has been posted on the business’ website or social media pages at time of writing. Their most recent posts were dated May 22 where the team hinted at new menu items for the summer months.
