Coronation Street fans know Gary Windass is hiding something, and now they think they have ‘rumbled’ that he is doing so for Sarah Platt’s benefit.

The former couple haven’t only been raising eyebrows among viewers of the ITV soap, but those in Weatherfield are also starting to notice the closeness between the pair, namely, Gary’s wife, Maria Windass.

The pair have been openly defending one another, notably since the murder of Theo Silverton. As Corrie fans know, the abuser was killed on the night of Lisa Swain and Carla Connor’s wedding, with his lifeless body discovered by a horrified Betsy Swain.

A ‘whodunnit’ quickly got underway and Corrie has previously confirmed Todd Grimshaw, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass and Danielle Silverton as the six potential suspects.

Viewers saw Summer charged with Theo’s murder after all the evidence so far pointed in her direction, and Tyrone Dobbs lied about seeing her on the night the abuser, who was alive at the time, was killed.

And last week, Sarah spoke to her boyfriend, DCKit Green, as he questioned whether Maria would lie to give Gary an alibi. Meanwhile, in the Rovers, Maria questioned Gary’s closeness to Sarah because of their history, which again saw Gary jump on the defensive.

However, during Wednesday’s (June 10) episode of Corrie, a guilty Tyrone ended up telling the police about seeing Summer on the night of Theo’s murder. Later, in the Rovers, Gary felt awkward as Theo’s death was discussed. As Gary left, Kit followed him out onto the street and made it clear that Gary was still his number one suspect.

Gary told Kit he needed to ‘prove it’, but as he walked away, it was clear Gary was concerned. A flashback to the night of Theo’s murder showed Gary at the top of the scaffolding while holding a mallet. He could be seen staring down at Theo’s lifeless body on the floor, which is where he was later found by Betsy.

But it was Gary’s early comments to Sarah, as he defeatedly asked why he had to be caught up in the web of lies, that got Corrie fans believing he wasn’t responsible for Theo’s murder, and now many think it’s Sarah, despite her also being attacked on the night of Theo’s murder by Jodie Ramsey.

@laura.amy said: “Too obvious to be Gary, my money is on Sarah. Think Sarah grabbed the weapon and did it, Gary heard the commotion and went up to the roof, took the weapon off Sarah, then looked over the edge at what she’d done.” @donnamerriman3 commented: “I think might of been Sarah that killed Theo and Gary is covering for her because he might be be married to Maria but Sarah is the love of Gary life.”

Over on Reddit, IaGar0788 suggested: “If it was Miles [Theo’s son] then Gary has no reason to cover for him. We all know though that he’d do anything for Sarah.” Cyril_Sneer_6 shared: “It’s gotta to be Sarah but Gary is involved somehow (covering up for her or helping her in some way).” Vegetaisawitcher posted: “Sarah killed theo. And Gary is trying to cover it up i believe.” Intelligent_Court396 added: “It’s obviously Sarah. When we get the full reveal, she twonked him on the head, Gary came along and grabbed the tool out of her hands and looked over and saw the body.”
