Duffy has been spotted in public for the first time in over 15 years, just days after giving an update on her return to music. The 41 year old withdrew from the limelight more than a decade ago, following a traumatic kidnapping ordeal during which she was drugged and raped.

Following news of her forthcoming London concert, she was seen visiting a café in North Wales, just seven miles from her home town of Nefyn, near Bangor. The chart-topping singer dropped into Caffi Largo where she spoke with staff and kindly posed for photographs with the team.

She appeared in great spirits during the relaxed visit, with staff posting a picture of the occasion, writing: “Spotted – Celebrity singer from Nefyn, Amy Duffy, popped into the Caffi this morning.

The Caffi Largo team said to Wales Online: “It was a lovely surprise to see Duffy walk in to Caffi Largo having enjoyed her music years ago. She was down to earth and easy to talk to.

“The response to the picture has been amazing for us.

“We are all looking forward to hearing more music from the brilliant Duffy from Nefyn.”

Duffy stopped releasing music in 2011 and has stayed away from the public eye ever since. The acclaimed performer bravely opened up in 2020 about horrific trauma she suffered after posting about being drugged and raped in a kidnapping ordeal.

She said: “It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country.

“I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me.”

Duffy recently made headlines after announcing her return to the stage for her first live performance in 15 years. The concert is scheduled to take place in London on July 5, with tickets available free of charge to attendees through a ballot system.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “I’m doing a secret intimate gig in London on 5th July next month, and I would love nothing more than for some of you to attend.

“Please visit the link below and leave your details if you want to come. It’s only small capacity so we can only select a few, but really looking forward to it, I will sing some new songs.”

This will mark the first occasion that fans will hear fresh material from Duffy in 16 years.

In her announcement last month, she shared a photograph of herself in the studio captioned: “If only I could find the right words to explain how much I’ve missed you all. Working on coming back to you.”
