Huge disruption to rail services to and from Birmingham on one main route is set to affect passengers this weekend.

Engineering works are taking place, between Rugby and Birmingham International stations, in the Coventry area on Sunday (June 14).

With services with four rail companies, Avanti West Coast, Cross Country, London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway set to be hit.

Some services will be cancelled, some will be diverted, while others will see passengers needing to take rail replacement buses for part of their journeys.

West Midlands Railway said: “Essential engineering works are taking place in the Coventry area this Sunday 14 June.

“No services will operate between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton, and between B’ham Intl and Rugby. Road transport will be in operation.”

Avanti West Coast services to and from London Euston will be hit.

As will CrossCountry trains between Bournemouth, Reading and Manchester Piccadilly.

London Northwestern services from London Euston, Northampton and Birmingham New Street will be disrupted.

And West Midlands Railway trains between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton will not operate.

With Avanti West Coast Avanti West Coast. National Rail said: “Trains between London Euston and Birmingham New Street/Wolverhampton will not run.

“Watford Junction and Rugby stations will be served by trains running between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street/Manchester Piccadilly instead.

“Trains between London Euston to Crewe/Preston/Scotland via Birmingham New Street will start and terminate at Birmingham International.

“Rail replacement buses will operate between Rugby and Birmingham International, calling at Coventry.”

CrossCountry trains will be diverted, and will not call at Coventry or Birmingham International.

While replacement buses will run between Leamington Spa and Birmingham International via Coventry.

For London Northwestern Railway services, National Rail said: “Train services between London Euston/Northampton and Birmingham New Street will run between London Euston/Northampton and Rugby.

“And also between Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street only.

“Trains between Coventry and Birmingham New Street will run between Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street only.

“Rail replacement buses will operate between Rugby/Coventry and Birmingham International.”

And there will be no West Midlands Railway services between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton with rail replacement buses instead.
