A loving brother, uncle and best friend who was only 49 is among those remembered in this week’s funeral notices.
Miles Robert Darwin – described by loved ones as the “life and soul of the party” and “always the one to give the last he had to help others” – passed away unexpectedly at Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske on May 26.

On Saturday, 23rd May, 2026, peacefully passed away at Amberley House Care Home, Truro, Barbara, aged 91 years. Loving wife of Tony (deceased). Much loved mum to Helen, Andrew and Kim, and mother-in-law to Tim and Anne. Cherished grandma to Harry, Anna, Freya, Daniel and Phoebe. (Damo) It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Damian “Damo” Barnes on 3rd June 2026. A well-known and much loved Barbican barber, Damian was the cherished son of Roger and Veronica, and a devoted brother to Jason. He was a loving husband to Vicki and a proud, adoring father to Daisy and Hollie. Damian’s warmth, humour and kindness touched everyone who knew him – family, friends, and the many customers who became part of his extended community. He will be deeply missed by all. (Midge) Passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on 26/5/26. Now reunited with Terry who was waiting at the gates of heaven for her. Taken from us far too soon, we will all miss you so much and you will be remembered always. Your memories will last a lifetime and fill us all with love. Passed away on 29th May 2026 aged 92 years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather slipped away peacefully in his sleep. A lifelong master mariner, Merchant Navy captain, Commander RNR, Old Whitgiftian, Old Worcester & Freeman of the city of London enjoyed a long fulfilling life supporting his family, local community & seafaring charities. He leaves his wife Patricia (Paddy), sons Christopher & Peter and we rejoice in the promise of eternal life.
