A small family-run zoo, just over the border into North Wales, has everything from animal meet and greets to tractor rides. Greenacres Animal Park is located just 38 minutes from Liverpool city centre, the attraction is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10.30am to 4.30pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10.30am to 5pm.
The park is home to more than 50 different species of both exotic and farm animals. In the summer, visitors can enjoy tractor rides as well as an indoor soft play area if the weather is poor. There’s also a large outdoor play area available, and a café with hot and cold food.
Visitors can also book animal encounters, ‘keeper for the day’ experiences, and birthday parties. The animal meet-and-greets offer little ones the chance to interact with small animals like guinea pigs, rats, chickens, ferrets and the zoo’s European eagle owl.
Tractor rides take visitors through the zoo’s scenic fields, as well as offering the chance to get up close and personal with some of the animals on site. Along the route, visitors can see Highland cattle, Cameroon sheep, alpacas, pigs and llamas.
The on-site Kookaburra Café serves sandwiches, chips, toasties, and classic jacket potatoes, as well as a range of indulgent cakes. And on hot summer days there’s a selection of ice creams and lollies to choose from in the chiller.
A number of families have posted their reviews for the zoo on TripAdvisor, sharing their praise for the North Wales attraction.
John D said: “We took our five year-old here yesterday, and he absolutely loved it. You are actually in with the animals and it’s a very close and personal experience versus being behind a glass wall or seeing animals from a distance.
“The park itself has many tall trees, so there’s lots of shade on a hot day, playgrounds for the kids, a soft playroom, and reasonably priced food. It is a high-value experience that is very reasonably priced.
“The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. Highly recommend junior zookeeper for a day. I regret dumping tons of money into Chester Zoo instead of here.”

Mandy S said: “Me and my husband took our two grandsons, aged nearly two and four, and we absolutely loved it. Yes, I agree it needs money spent on it to update it a bit; however, for the admission price, I was happy.
“The joy on my grandsons’ faces as they ran around was fantastic as they had freedom rather than having to be kept at our sides all the time.
“I actually feel they enjoyed it better than Chester Zoo as it was more manageable for their ages.”

Laura M said: “We went as a family and we were amazed at the variety of animals we could see. Every member of staff we spoke to was lovely. The tractor ride was amazing. Our little boy loved it. We will definitely be back!”
For families wanting to extend their trip, there are a number of glamping bell tents on the site. Each tent comes with cosy beds, a mini kitchen corner and a fire pit/BBQ for spending time in the outdoors. Silver package access to the park is included, with a chance to upgrade to the Gold package on arrival at reception.
With a PitchUp rating of 9.8 out of 10, prices start from £120 for a weekend stay at the site.
