A stretch of the M62 motorway remains shut this morning hours after a crash which left a man with serious injuries.
The major motorway is closed on its westbound carriageway between J8 Burtonwood and J7 Rainhill, near Warrington, following the one-car crash. The vehicle ‘left the carriageway’ in the crash, which happened at around 4.20am.
Emergency services are on the scene. National Highways has said ‘there is currently no estimated time for reopening as emergency services remain focused on the initial response’.

A full diversion route has been put in place, with drivers warned of delays in the area and congestion on the approach to the closure. In a statement, National Highways said: “Merseyside Police lead the response to a single vehicle collision which occurred at 04:18am. The vehicle has reported to have left the carriageway.
“The carriageway has been closed to allow emergency services to response to the incident safely. National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management.
“There is currently no estimated time for reopening as emergency services remain focused on the initial response.”
Merseyside Police said one man was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries. In a statement on X, the force said: “We can confirm that a section of the M62 is closed following a serious collision. At around 4.15am this morning (Tuesday 16 June), we received a report of a single-car collision. A man has been taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
” All three lanes of the westbound carriageway, from junction eight to junction seven, are still closed. Motorists are advised to avoid this stretch of the motorway and thank you for your patience while this incident is dealt with.
“Any witnesses with information including dashcam are asked to contact us @MerPolCC or call 101 with reference 112 of 16th June.”
