Xabi Alonso may be managing Chelsea next season, but that hasn’t stopped him from being voted as the 54th-best Liverpool player of all time. The club have also paid him a mighty compliment.
Fans, former players, journalists and a club panel were asked to rank their top 100 Reds players in history based on ability, impact, legacy and success of a player while at Anfield. Roughly 1.4 million picks were submitted.
Alonso, who spent five seasons as a Red, has come in at 54th and in their write-up on the official club website, he was described as “one of the best passers of a football to ever wear the Liverpool shirt.”
