One person has been ‘seriously injured’ in a police incident in Byker, with Shields Road cordoned off. Just before 7.30pm on Tuesday, a huge emergency services presence descended on the major Newcastle street.
Several police vehicles could be seen behind the cordon last night, and the latest traffic cameras show that they remain at the scene. Both North East Ambulance Service and Great North Air Ambulance Service were also involved.
The ambulance service deployed two ambulances, a clinical team leader, and representatives of its Hazardous Area Response Team. They were joined by GNAAS on the scene, with the patient being taken to the RVI.
