A man facing murder and weapons charges in connection with a fatal shooting in New London in March was arrested on Wednesday in Rhode Island.
Navarre Zeigler, 21, of New London was apprehended in North Providence, Rhode Island, according to Brian M. Wright, chief of the New London Police Department. Wright said he was arrested with assistance from the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshal Service.
Zeigler has been charged in connection with a shooting on March 18 in the area of 22 Moore Ave. where officers responded at 6:18 p.m. on the report of gunshots and a man possibly being shot. Police found that a man had been shot in the torso, Wright said.
The victim, 20-year-old Avery Rivera of Ledyard, was tended to by officers at the scene and taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to Wright. Wright said the shooting did not appear to be random.
Zeigler faces charges of murder, carrying a pistol without permit, unlawful discharge of firearm and tampering with physical evidence. He was held on a $1 million bond.
Wright said the investigation into the fatal shooting remains active.
