Local residents and families have been left wondering when the popular St Andrew’s Park paddling pool will reopen this year.

Despite an original date published to the Bristol City Council website, which stated that the popular summer spot was due to open over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, the pool is still closed off to visitors.

Visiting the site earlier in the week, Bristol Live took photos of the empty paddling pool, which is currently closed off with metal fencing surrounding it.

It comes as the pool, which is an incredibly popular feature of St Andrew’s Park in Bishopston, was late reopening for the summer 2024 season, too.

Back on May 22 of last year, BristolLive reported that the paddling pool still needed to undergo a series of works before it could reopen to the public, Bristol City Council said at the time.

In 2023, the pool didn’t reopen until June 15. So it could be several more weeks until the paddling pool opens again for summer.

BristolLive has contacted Bristol City Council for an opening date.

Residents were left without the pool for years during the Covid-19 pandemic, as it closed for renovations in 2020 and was left surrounded by fencing which many neighbours called an ‘eyesore’.

Locals feared the pool would not reopen at all after the coronavirus pandemic meant there were delays to renovation work.

A petition was launched to try and remove the fencing surrounding the paddling pool early in 2022, claiming it was causing a ‘detrimental effect on park-goers’.

In the 2022 summer season the pool was re-opened. Since those initial repairs, the pool now opens on a seasonal basis.

The pool is hugely popular among families during the summer months and is, in fact, such a popular feature of St Andrew’s Park, that it has its own dedicated Facebook group, named ‘We Love St Andrews Paddling Pool’.

In this group, and other local pages on social media, many people have recently been wondering when the pool is due to open.

Earlier in the month, one member of the group shared a photo of the pool still surrounded by fencing and said that the pool had been “swept out”.

Others in the comments believed that the pool was due to be repaired and painted in the following weeks, ready for the 2025 season.

It is hoped confirmation of the pool’s reopening will be given in the coming days.
