A man has been accused of bigamy following a Las Vegas wedding. Marc Dougherty appeared before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, Thursday, to face this single charge, which concerns his marriage to a woman named Pamela Lewis.
The ceremony is understood to have taken place in Las Vegas on July 4 last year. However, the 51-year-old, of Acorn Street in Newton-le-Willows, is alleged to have still been married at the time following an earlier wedding in Hull in 2006.
Dougherty, who was represented by Dominic McNabb, spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a brief hearing. Gayle McCoubrey, prosecuting, then asked for the defendant to be arraigned.
Appearing in the dock wearing a white shirt and jeans and sporting short grey hair, he pleaded not guilty to the count. This states that, on July 4 2024, he, “during the life of his wife, went through a form of marriage with Pamela Lewis”.
Dougherty, who was supported by a blonde haired woman in a blue short sleeved dress in the public gallery, elected to face a trial by jury before the crown court. As such, he will now appear before Liverpool Crown Court on June 12 and was released on unconditional bail until this date.

Adjourning the case, magistrates panel chairman Andrew Antoniou said: “The 12th of June at Liverpool Crown Court will be the next hearing. Until then, you remain on unconditional bail. You are free to leave. Thank you.”
