The young girl who died following a collision involving a van in Newry on Sunday has been named as Kourtney Khloe McCormick.
Kourtney, who had just turned six years old, died following the collision in the Springfarm Heights area on Sunday, June 21. Her death has led to an outpouring of grief in the local community and across Northern Ireland.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm the young girl who sadly died following a serious road traffic collision in Newry was Kourtney Khloe McCormick. “Kourtney had just turned six years old, and died following a collision involving a black Ford Tourneo van in the Springfarm Heights area on Sunday evening, 21st June. “Officers continue to investigate the circumstances of what happened. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 1552 21/06/26, or submit information online at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.”
Newry and Armagh DUP MLA Gareth Wilson has expressed his profound sadness following Kourtney’s death saying: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of such a young child following this devastating incident. My thoughts and prayers are with the girl’s family circle, friends, and all those affected by this unimaginable loss.
“The loss of a young life is always particularly heartbreaking, and it will be felt right across the wider community
“It is vital that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have relevant footage comes forward to assist police as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this event.”
