A popular deli which has been one of the only places in Greater Manchester for people to buy certain products has announced it will be closing down this week with all stock being sold off on sale.
Since September 2024, The Irish Deli has sat next door to the popular Kennedy’s pub in Altrincham where it serves a range of some of Ireland’s best exports – from fresh cheese, meat and White Pudding to Tayto crisps and Barry’s Tea.
Set in the former Clock Tower pub space on Greenwood Street, opposite Altrincham Market, the shop has also become known for its hot chicken rolls and its chocolate Guinness cheesecake, both of which often sell out on a busy lunchtime rush.

But bosses, who are also behind the Kennedy Irish bars in Altrincham and Didsbury which has just been recognised with a major award, have said that the plans for the deli are that it will now close for good this Saturday (June 27) ahead of a major transformation for the space.
Until its last day of operation, there will be a 40% off closing down sale off most items. Bosses have thanked their loyal customers from over the almost two years it has been open, but said its revamp comes amidst feedback they’ve had.

Posting on Instagram, The Irish Deli said: “After an incredible journey, we’ve made the decision to pause The Irish Deli as we work behind the scenes on something completely new for Altrincham.
“Over the past months we’ve listened carefully to your feedback, watched how the space is being used, and thought hard about what the local community really wants. The people spoke, and we listened.”
The plan is that the space will become home to a new ‘day-to-night’ venue which has been hailed as ‘something big’ for the area. The post added: “We’re now transforming the space into an exciting new day-to-night concept that will take the venue in a whole new direction. Think great coffee, casual daytime catch-ups, food and socialising by day, evolving into a vibrant destination to meet, eat, drink and enjoy by night.

“We’re incredibly proud of everything The Irish Deli has been and the support you’ve shown us since day one. But we’re even more excited about what’s coming next. We can’t reveal too much just yet, but trust us when we say: Something BIG is coming to Altrincham.”
Understandably, the news has been met with both sadness and support from locals. One person wrote: “No more Irish goodies for me… Boooo.” One other added: “Wishing you all the success in what’s to come!!! I’m sure it will offer the local community a totally vibrant, welcoming hub for all.”
