Police have confirmed that a body found on the Welsh coastline is that of a missing teenager from South Gloucestershire.

A body was found during the search for 16-year-old Athrun, who vanished on Saturday, May 10, while on a family holiday, North Wales Police have confirmed.

Athrun was last seen near the boating lake and playpark in Llandudno wearing blue and white patterned swimming shorts, reports Wales Online.

“Extensive” searches on land, in the air and across water were conducted by experts from multiple agencies immediately after the missing person report was filed.

On Wednesday (May 14), North Wales Police confirmed a body had been found in the West Shore area on Llandudno.

The force has today (Thursday, May 15) confirmed the body is that of Athrun.

North Wales Police said: “Sadly, we can confirm that the body recovered during searches in the West Shore area of Llandudno yesterday evening (Wednesday, 14 May) is that of 16-year-old Athrun.

“Athrun’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

“We are working in conjunction with the local coroner to assist with their enquiries.”

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said: “Our thoughts are very much with Athrun’s family, who wish to thank all agencies and members of the public for their overwhelming support with the search, and for not giving up on his recovery.”

CI Bevan added: “This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, but we hope it can now provide some answers for Athrun’s family.

“I continue to ask for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly difficult time.””
