LICHFIELD District Council has confirmed recycling and garden waste collections have been suspended due to the hot weather.
With heat alerts in place, the local authority said it had taken the decision not to send crews out on their usual rounds for “health and safety reasons”.
A spokesperson said:
“We’re really sorry to anyone this affects and thank you in advance for your understanding.
“With temperatures forecast to reach 35°C after lunch, we need to ensure that our crews have completed their rounds before it becomes too hot to work safely.
“To do this, we’ll be asking our recycling and garden crews to help on black bin collections, and we’ll also be diverting all the waste collection vehicles we can to help with black bins.
“Any remaining crews will help with food waste caddy deliveries in the caddy delivery vehicles we’ve hired for this purpose.”
Households have been told that blue bins will be emptied on the next scheduled date.
“If your garden waste bin is due to be emptied, we’ll empty it on your next normal brown bin day and we’ll also put on an additional collection at the end of the year to make up for your missed collection.
“Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for supporting our efforts to look after our crews during this period of extreme heat.”
