The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, has trained 190 young engineers, students, corps members, teachers, and early-career professionals in innovation, practical engineering skills, and sustainable energy solutions.
The training was held during the 8th edition of the NSE Ikeja Branch Innovation Week 2026 in Lagos, themed “Engineering Adaptable Solutions for Energy Access and Sustainable Development for All.”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, NSE President and Chairman-in-Council, Mr. Ali Rabiu, represented by NSE Fellow, Ibrahim Aledu, urged young engineers to develop innovative solutions to address energy access challenges and support sustainable development.
“The world will increasingly depend on your ideas, creativity, and expertise to solve some of its most pressing energy challenges,” he said.
Chairman of the NSE Ikeja Branch, Mrs. Nimot Muili, said the three-day program was designed to provide participants with hands-on training in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), helping them develop problem-solving, creativity, and innovation skills.
She noted that engineers must remain adaptable in developing sustainable energy systems, resilient infrastructure, and technologies that improve lives and drive economic growth.
Managing Director of Proyecto Technologies Limited, Mr. Oyetayo Ige, encouraged participants to focus on solving local problems through practical innovation.
“Innovation does not require a lot of money; it begins with curiosity. Every problem presents an opportunity, and engineering is about developing practical solutions,” he said.
Also speaking, President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Mrs. Chinyere Igwegbe, urged young Nigerians to harness their creativity and entrepreneurial potential to contribute to national development.
Director-General of the National Board for Technology Incubation, Dr. Kazeem Raji, represented by Mrs. Jummai Balogun, said the agency continues to support innovators through mentorship, technical guidance, and business incubation opportunities.
The Innovation Week featured the Francis Oguamanam Inno-Creativ Fair (FOIF) and the Idiat Amusu Project Skills Initiative (IAAPSI), aimed at promoting innovation, creativity, and practical skills among young engineers.
A total of 190 participants benefited from the training, including 60 corps members, 100 students, 20 early-career professionals, and 10 teachers.
