A wayward cow shut down part of a dual carriageway in Co Tyrone for approximately an hour on Thursday evening.

Road users on the A4 near Dungannon were first warned to exercise caution after the errant animal found its way on to the road around the Parkanaur junction.

Police were called to the scene to deal with the incident, which began shortly before 5pm. Motorists were advised to seek an alternative route.

Shortly after 6.30pm, the the PSNI reported that the “dual carriageway outside Dungannon, in the vicinity of the Parkanaur junction” had reopened.

Meanwhile, traffic on the M2 northbound out of Belfast came to a standstill following a four vehicle crash near the Greencastle junction shortly after 5pm. Fire service vehicles attended the scene.

No injuries were reported and the road reopened after approximately 20 minutes.
