Police Scotland are probing two separate sexual assaults in Glasgow over the weekend, while detectives are also looking at a separate incident in Coatbridge.

Two sex attacks on women were reported to police within hours of each other in lawless Glasgow. The incidents come just a day after the SNP-led Glasgow City Council admitted that they were “extremely concerned” about the safety of women who use alleyways throughout the city.
Police Scotland are probing two different crimes just three miles apart that took place on Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday morning. They were called to Springburn Park and cordoned the area off at about 9.10pm on Friday night following a report of a “serious sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl.
A spokesperson said on Sunday: “Officers remain in attendance while enquiries are carried out, and anyone with concerns or information can approach them or call 101, quoting incident number 3845 of 26 June.”
Then a major police presence was reported in a lane just off Glasgow city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning. Cops confirmed it was probing “a report of the sexual assault of a woman which occurred In Virginia Place, Glasgow, around 3.20am on Saturday, 27 June 2026. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
An area near the Corinthian Club was cordoned off. No descriptions have been released for either of these incidents but it has led to widespread concern among local residents.
On the No1seems2care Facebook page, a number of people raised concerns about the two attacks taking place in such a short timeframe. One mum wrote: “Omg this is horrendous all I’m hearing I have a nearly 16yr daughter this terrifies me wtf is happening it’s every day.”

Another person added: “How many more of these attacks need to happen before something is done. There’s too many now in Glasgow – the city centre is not a nice place to be at all night.” Someone else wrote: “It’s bang out of order you can’t walk on any street without looking over your shoulder.”
The attack in the lane near the city centre comes two days after councillors agreed a plan to make alleyways safer. A motion from the SNP-run council said there were “recurring challenges relating to lighting, cleansing, surveillance and safety” and “there have been recent instances where lanes have required police intervention due to safety concerns, illustrating the risks associated with poorly maintained and unmanaged spaces”.
It went on: “Council notes with extreme concern that women and girls disproportionately experience fear and vulnerability within poorly designed or neglected urban environments, particularly in enclosed or low-visibility areas such as lanes with many women feeling unsafe when using such spaces after dark resulting in avoidance behaviour and wider community safety concerns.”

Detectives are also investigating a third sex attack that occurred this weekend in Coatbridge, just eight miles away from Glasgow. A teenage girl was sexually assaulted while walking in a lane near Blair Road and Auldhame Street around 1 a.m. on Sunday. The 17-year-old was attacked, the suspect is described as white, with dark hair and was wearing a padded jacket and dark trousers.
Sex crimes are rising to record levels under the SNP Government. Sexual crimes recorded by Police Scotland increased by 10% last year and are now at their highest level since 1971. The total number of sexual crimes, which include rape and attempted rape, sexual assault and communicating indecently, rose from 14,892 to 16,430.
