Leeds United will have to reconstruct their defence this summer, with Pascal Struijk officially joining Brighton.

The deal for the Dutch defender is said to be in the region of £18-20million after his impressive campaign in West Yorkshire.

With just one year left on his deal, the sale of Struijk was always expected this summer. However, this does not make it any less disappointing.

That is why the 49ers must move quickly to secure a deal for the defender Leeds have been continuously linked with this summer.

Leeds United must finalise a move for Ladislav Krejci soon

Ladislav Krejci, 27, has been the defender linked with United the most so far this summer.

This is understandable given the fact that he looks set to leave Wolves following their relegation from the Premier League. On paper, there’s a lot to like about the potential deal.

Krejci has experience of playing in the English top-flight. He also captained the Czech Republic at this summer’s World Cup.

But perhaps most importantly, he is left-footed, making him an ideal replacement for Struijk.

TeamTALK’s latest report seemingly confirms that Leeds still hold an interest in Krejci. Wolves are said to be demanding around £40million for their man.

Considering how frequently we’ve been linked to Krejci and how much sense it looks to make on paper, I’d be stunned if there weren’t any legs to this potential deal.

With the amount of reports out regarding Krejci’s potential move to Leeds, you would imagine that Daniel Farke and the 49ers have taken a particular liking to him.

For this reason, I’d love to see him signed as our Struijk replacement as soon as possible. In the aftermath of the Dutchman’s confirmed departure.

With the Czech Republic being knocked out of the World Cup too, it seems to be an ideal opportunity to step up our pursuit of Krejci.

Ladislav Krejci on his own would not be enough for Leeds

Krejci would be expected to slot straight into our starting XI to replace Struijk. But signing him alone would not be enough.

For me, we desperately need more depth on the left side of our defence. Both at centre-back and wing-back. Also, any backup we bring in this summer should also be left-footed. That is a profile of player we lack in our current squad.

A backup centre-back will also likely be considerably cheaper than the £40million it would take to sign Krejci. But both are arguably a necessity.

With the Harry Wilson deal looking to be nearly wrapped up, signing a replacement for Struijk now would be my top priority for Leeds.

Especially if we want to continue playing with three centre-backs next season, a left-footer to play that role is urgently needed.

That is why a deal for Krecji, or someone else, must be done as soon as finalised by the 49ers in an ideal world.
