A person has been seriously injured on the A46 today.

Motorists are being warned that a stretch of the A46 in Warwickshire will be closed for at least another four hours while police conduct a full investigation.

One car was said to be involved in the crash on the A46 southbound, which is closed between Leaf Lane and Stoneleigh.

“It is likely to remain closed for some time following a collision,” the Leamington police team said.

Live traffic website Inrix has said traffic is building in the area.

“A46 Kenilworth By Pass Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident from A45 Stonebridge Highway (Festival Island, Baginton) to Stoneleigh Road (Stoneleigh),” the latest update reads.

National Highways West Midlands has confirmed in an update that the closure is set to remain in place for ‘at least another four hours’.

Traffic caught within the closure has been released.

On the National Highways website, it explains a ‘full police investigation’ is underway following an ‘overnight incident’.

It reads:

Warwickshire Police have closed the A46 southbound between the A45 near Coventry and Stoneleigh Island following an overnight incident.The incident will require a full police investigation, and the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning.National Highways Traffic Officers and contractors are supporting Warwickshire Police with road closures and traffic management.

The diversion route is as follows:

  • At the roundabout between the A46 and A45, take the 3rd exit onto the A46.
  • Continue on the A46 until the roundabout with the B4113. Take the 2nd exit to remain on the A46.
  • Continue on the A46 until the junction with the A429. Turn left onto the A429.
  • Continue on the A429 until the junction with Stoneleigh Road. Turn left onto Stoneleigh Road.
  • Continue on Stoneleigh Road until the roundabout with Dalehouse Lane. Take the 1st exit, remaining on Stoneleigh Road.
  • Continue on Stoneleigh Road until the roundabout with the A46.
  • At the roundabout with the A46, the diversion route ends.

It posted “The A46 has been closed at the Stivichall Interchange for traffic heading towards Kenilworth due to a serious collision. This will cause major backups on the A45 and A444 London Road in Coventry.
