A gun found inside a flat is set to be tested for links with shootings in Merseyside. Officers carried out a raid at a flat on Falkner Street in the Georgian Quarter on Wednesday, May 14.

Police found a semi-automatic pistol and five rounds of ammunition inside the property and this was made safe and is being forensically tested, Merseyside Police said.

Officers carried out a search were a large amount of suspected drugs, namely heroin, cocaine and cannabis, and money were found. A 42-year-old man from Liverpool and a 32-year-old woman from Widnes were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate, possession ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, possession with intent to supply Class A and B controlled drugs (heroin, cocaine and cannabis) and acquire/use/possess criminal property.

They have been bailed with conditions. Detective inspector Chris Carlin said the gun is being tested to see if is linked to any shootings which may have occurred.

In a statement, he said: “These two arrests were part of our proactive work to disrupt any suspected criminal activity. Drug dealing is a blight on our community, causes misery to families and often involves the exploitation of children.

“We are relentless in pursuing those involved in drug dealing and serious and organised criminality in Merseyside. We are now forensically testing the firearm to see if it is linked to any incidents.

“Thankfully this firearm has been safely recovered and it can no longer be used to cause fear or harm in our community.”
