An Asian bakery that’s been serving sweets, cakes and treats since 1979 is set to open a new branch in Lozells.
Nafees Bakery was founded in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir almost 50 years ago and now claims to be the largest South Asian confectionery producer in Europe.
It has more than 40 branches in the UK now, including in Alum Rock, Smethwick and Sparkhill.

The new branch is launching at 90 Lozells Road (B19 2TB) on Saturday, May 17 at 2pm.
The bakery posted online: “Exciting news for Birmingham Lozells! Nafees is opening its new branch on May 17, 2025, at 2pm and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!
“Free samples and sample bags will be handed out to early visitors (while stocks last!) Don’t miss out.”
It added: “Save the date, spread the word and join us for this special opening. See you there.”
Nafees is known for its celebration cakes, ras malai, samosas and freshly-baked biscuits.
Customers shared their excitement for the opening. Asad Hussain wrote: “Can’t wait, in sha Allah I’ll be there.”
Aleen Syed commented: “Finally!” while Raja Rizwan Tariq said: “In sha Allah I’ll be there.”
The chain has a good reputation among reviewers in Smethwick and Alum Rock, with Google Review ratings of 4.3 stars and 4.4 stars respectively.
Reviews on the Sparkhill branch are mixed, with customers giving it a 3.7 star rating out of five. Comments range from calling it a top rated ‘one stop shop’ to one-star complaints about rushed service.
Nafees will join a number of Asian sweet shops in Lozells, including Mushtaq Sweet Centre and Mishtidesh.
