Rescue crews in Edinburgh were called to the scene after reports of a windsurfer in danger. South Queensferry Coastal Rescue Officers attended on Friday July 3, along with police, fire crews, and Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue Team.
The alarm was raised after a member of the public called for the coastguard. After the multi-agency response arrived, the windsurfer was located ‘safe and well’.
Rescue crews have since thanked the member of the public, and recommended locals call 999 if they are concerned for someone’s safety. They added: “We’d always rather attend and find someone safe than risk a person in difficulty going unreported.”
Posting online, South Queensferry Coastguard crews said: “South Queensferry Coastal Rescue Officers attended a call for help today after a member of the public reported concerns that a windsurfer appeared to be struggling on the water.
“A multi-agency response was launched involving ourselves, Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue Team, Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Water Rescue Unit. Following a thorough search and assessment, the windsurfer was located safe and well and did not require any assistance.
“We would like to thank the member of the public who raised the alarm. They absolutely did the right thing by dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard when they became concerned for someone’s safety. We’d always rather attend and find someone safe than risk a person in difficulty going unreported.
“If you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
