A 19-year-old was rushed to a Manchester burns unit after being pulled from a devastating house fire. The ‘catastrophic’ blaze left 19-year-old Joey Gregory fighting for his life after suffering severe burns injuries in the incident.
The severe fire broke out at a house on Redcar Road in Blackpool on Tuesday, June 30, and also left a 13-year-old boy in a serious condition in hospital.
In an update posted online, Joey was said to have been taken to the burns intensive care unit at Wythenshawe Hospital, in south Manchester. In a post on Saturday (July 4), his mum posted Facebook: “We were told on Tuesday that the first 24-48 hours were critical. Then they said 72….. We are on day 5 and my boy is still here.

“Keep fighting sunshine, we ain’t going nowhere. We are so lucky to have such amazing family & friends. My boy is so loved. I don’t know where we are finding the strength from. Please keep praying.”
Following the incident, a GoFundMe page was set up by Jane Richardson to support the family of Joey. It said how the teenager had undergone emergency treatment and was then placed in a medically induced coma.
“He remains on a ventilator while specialist teams do everything they can to save his life. His injuries are extensive, and the road ahead will be unimaginably long and difficult,” the fundraising page read.
The statement says Joey’s life ‘changed forever’ on the day of the fire, adding that his family are now ‘facing the unimaginable’ as they remain at his bedside. Over £10,000 has so far been raised to support the family.
“We’re asking for help to ease some of the financial burden during this incredibly challenging time. Every donation, no matter how small, will help with everyday living costs, travel, accommodation if needed, and allow Joey’s family to focus on what matters most – being there for him as he fights for his life,” it read.
The blaze broke out at the home on Redcar Road, Blackpool, at around 9.37am on Tuesday morning. Five fire engines and a command support unit were dispatched to the scene, with crews deploying breathing apparatus, hose reels and a jet to tackle the fire.
At the time, police said a boy and a teenager were left in a ‘serious condition’ in the incident, and that three other people suffered minor injuries. No further updates have yet been shared.
