A woman has been arrested by Avon and Somerset Police officers investigating a series of distressing door knocks in the middle of the night.
The door knocks happened in Bristol and South Gloucestershire in the early hours of the morning.
Police said a woman had been asking people for money.
Incidents were reported in Mangotsfield, Hillfields and Fishponds.
Issuing an update, police said a woman had now been arrested. She was handed a Community Protection Warning and was recalled to prison.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: ““A woman was arrested last night by officers investigating a series of incidents in which people in the Mangotsfield, Fishponds and Hillfields areas have been approached at home in the early hours of the morning and asked for money.
“The woman was handed a Community Protection Warning (CPW) and recalled to prison.”
A CPW is a written warning issued by police as a first step to address and prevent anti-social behaviour.
If anti-social behaviour continues, then a Community Protection Notice, which comes with a specific timeframe and a bigger range of consequences, may be issued.
The door knocks led to a number of social media posts warning others.
One resident told BristolLive: “It’s very dangerous for older people.”
One of the posts warned vulnerable residents: “Stay safe and don’t answer the door, but report to the police.”
One person commented: “Imagine all the elderly and vulnerable people’s doors [that] they have knocked on.”
The police force said at the time it recognised the distress caused by these incidents.
