The future of some Forest players will come into question during the summer following a memorable campaign in the Premier League.

Forest have made a mockery of some pundits during the 2024/25 campaign.

Gary Lineker, Robbie Earle and Jamie Carragher all had Forest going down this season, without any real substance before a ball was kicked.

Lineker has called himself an idiot for that prediction, whilst Earle changed his mind on Forest pretty quickly. Carragher has brushed his prediction under the carpet.

Forest’s good form has largely been a team effort, with Nuno Espirito Santo steering the team on course for a Champions League finish just 12 months after almost slipping into the EFL.

A number of players have helped the cause, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic and Chris Wood all among the star players.

It’s been claimed that Manchester City are keen to sign Gibbs-White and that doesn’t come as a big surprise given that Kevin De Bruyne is going to move on this summer.

Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the Forest star and is going to go on the hunt for an alternative to De Bruyne during the summer transfer market.

Some might have reservations about Gibbs-White being capable of playing for City but Danny Murphy is leading the Forest star’s fan club at the moment, believing he’d be more than capable of doing a job at the Etihad Stadium.

He said live on TalkSPORT: “He’s just got it all, he’s shining in that team and it suits him being the main man in that respect. The only question you’d have is playing under bigger pressure and having to do it more consistently.

“He’s great with his back to call, great skill, can score, good passer, he takes risks with his passes and through balls. The great advantage with someone like Gibbs-White is that he wants to do the work without the ball and you don’t always get number 10s who want to do the work. He can play centre mid too, I’ve seen him play there and he is just phenomenal.

“He’s unlucky at the moment that England have got so many players who can play in his position but I think he could play in any team. He’s terrific. The question is though, would he go to Manchester City? Probably.

“But you’ve got to ask the question, maybe a year on the Champions League journey if they get in it, rather than being a bit-part. We saw Kalvin Phillips fall away doing that so he might stick it out for a year.”

Morgan Gibbs-White stats 2024/25

It’s hard to imagine Gibbs-White not playing for a European powerhouse at some point during his career.

However, these players in the class of 2024/25 have been like a band of brothers and surely there will be no major call for players to leave if Champions League football is on the agenda.

Gibbs-White seems to value playing for Forest an awful lot and the hope will be that Evangelos Marinakis can demand top whack for a player of his calibre.

Losing Gibbs-White could prove seriously detrimental to Forest.

Although a big chunk of money would go into the coffers, finding a like-for-like replacement might be tricky and certainly won’t come cheap.

Hopefully, City will look elsewhere for their new De Bruyne and Forest can enjoy at least another year of Gibbs-White causing chaos in the final third on the European stage.
