Laurel County clerk confirms London mayor’s name will not appear on ballot
LLondon

London City Council to vote on resolution asking AG to remove mayor from office

  • 10 July 2026

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) – The London City Council will vote on a resolution and municipal order on Friday asking Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman to remove incumbent Mayor Randall Weddle from office.

The move comes after a judge ruled last month that Weddle was not an eligible candidate for reelection because he maintained his primary residence outside the city limits in Keavy rather than at another property he owns on East Fifth Street.

The resolution cites KRS 415.050 and 415.060, which empower the attorney general to initiate an investigation using what is known as usurper action.

Usurper action occurs when a public official continues to exercise public office after having committed or omitted an act that creates a situation in which they would have to forfeit their office.

The meeting will take place at 3 p.m. in the Laurel County Fiscal Court Chambers.
