As we head into another weekend of sunshine and temperatures over 20c degrees, petrol station forecourts are becoming mobbed with motorists looking to fill their tank up before hitting the road.

Drivers are being warned to make sure that they set themselves and their vehicle up to operate smoothly in the hot weather.

Keeping your vehicle ventilated, drinking lots of water and making sure your tyres and brakes are up to scratch are key components of driving safely in the heat.

Another obvious one is to make sure you’ve got plenty of fuel in the tank so that you’re not stranded on some sweltering hard shoulder in the middle of a heatwave.

Considering we’re still in the midst of a cost of living crisis and everyone is looking to save money where they can, we’ve created a handy little feature that can help you find the best deal on petrol near you.

In general, if you’re looking to make your fuel go for longer, there’s a simple hack you could use to do so.

A personal finance expert at NetVoucherCodes has advised drivers to top up their cars at ‘unusual’ times in order to avail of lower prices.

Rebecca Bebbington says midday and shortly after 5pm are ‘peak times’ at which the price of fuel can cost more in some forecourts.

Instead, she suggests drivers can take advantage of potentially lower prices during other times of day.

Rebecca said: “Petrol prices can fluctuate throughout the day, with prices typically lower during off-peak hours.

“Try to fill up your tank early in the morning or late at night to take advantage of potentially lower prices.

“Avoid peak times such as midday and after 5pm when the majority of the country finishes work.”
