Apple Pay is DOWN – as users get “account services unavailable” notices when using the app. Shoppers and customers are reportedly struggling to pay for products and items, too.

Consumers across the US and UK have been hit. “Won’t let me pay my account. ‘Account Services Unavailable’…” wrote one customer. “Stupid time to be down, really.”

“Service is temporarily unavailable… man I’m just trying to order food,” a second typed. “Why is Apple Pay trippinggggg,” wrote a third. Users in France, Canada, India, and Spain reported problems on Friday morning, too, alongside the UK and US.

92% of UK customers have reported issues when making payments while 8% have had issues with the Apple Pay app. A Downdetector chart shows a view of problem reports submitted in the past 24 hours compared to the typical volume of reports by time of day.

It is common for some problems to be reported throughout the day. Downdetector only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.

Apple Pay is a mobile payment service by Apple Inc. that allows users to make payments in person, in iOS apps, and on the web. It is supported on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. It digitizes and can replace a credit or debit card chip and PIN transaction at a contactless-capable point-of-sale terminal.

DownDetector has received over 2,000 user reports in the US, with complaints centered around payment failures and issues transferring funds. Frustrated users have taken to social media to vent.

Major cities including New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are reporting widespread issues.

The outage has also disrupted services that rely on Apple Pay, like Uber and other taxi services like Lyft.
