Shirley Manson announced that she was excited about her band’s gig at Edinburgh Castle, but she may have hoped for a more pleasant evening for what could be her last home town gig.
The haar which dogged play at the Scottish Open on Saturday lingered into the evening when Garbage took to the stage after a warm up session by Manson’s former band, Goodbye Mr Mackenzie.
Garbage performed at the opening of The Scottish Parliament, a fact mentioned in the fireside chat with Michael Pedersen and Nicola Sturgeon on New Year’s Day. Sturgeon said then that this would bookend her parliamentary career, as she had already announced her retrial as an MSP.
Shirley Manson now lives in the US and there were many tartan touches from the kilts to the pipe band marching through the crowd at the beginning of the evening. And just as the drizzle began the band ended with “It Only Happens When it Rains”. Fitting end, if indeed this is their last concert.
