The winning practices include: 5th Studio; Assemble Design; CarverHaggard; Daab Design Architects; Gibson Thornley; Gort Scott; Jan Kattein Architects; Karakusevic Carson Architects; NOOMA Studio; Patel Taylor Architects; Periscope Landscape & Architecture; Waugh Thistleton Architects; and Wonky Architecture.

According to LHC, more than 90 per cent of practices appointed to the framework are SMEs, with 67 per cent designated small or micro-businesses.

The teams selected for the four-year framework will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging from ‘small sites to complex multi-site projects’ for public sector clients in London.

The new 2025-29 framework supersedes LHC’s existing ADS1 and ADS1.1 frameworks, which were last tendered in partnership with Southwark Council six years ago and delivered around 100 projects.

Dubbed ‘ADS2’, the latest framework has been developed in partnership with Southwark, Islington and Westminster councils.

ADS2 has seven workstreams covering masterplanning, education and public buildings, residential, retrofit, MMC and public realm and landscape.

One lot has been allocated exclusively to micro-SMEs and small practices. To be eligible, practices had to show evidence of an annual turnover cap of £1 million.

Graham Collie, director of product innovation at LHC Procurement Group said: ‘The objectives for ADS2 focused on bringing new opportunities forward for practices with a track record of collaboration, innovation and community engagement.

‘That included improving access to public sector work for micro-SMEs, as well as more established firms. It’s a great example of how procurement can be used as a lever to create opportunities for businesses that might not otherwise get public sector work.’

LHC is a specialist body which compiles public frameworks, manages around 500 live projects at any one time and is run by a joint committee of local authorities.

Office S&M, jmarchitects, Stride Treglown, Weston Williamson, Oberlanders Architects and Ryder Architecture were among 22 practices chosen for LHC’s UK-wide public sector housing framework in 2023.

Bids for inclusion on the latest framework were evaluated 80 per cent on quality and 20 per cent on cost. The framework will run until 2029.
