Thousands will flock to Murrayfield on Saturday

Edinburgh rugby fans who will flock to Murrayfield on Saturday have been issued a warning. Thousands are heading to the game on July 18, as Scotland play Fiji in the last of the Nations Championships Southern Series.
ScotRail has told passengers that due to the former Debenhams blaze on Princes Street, customers who usually travel to Waverley will be redirected. They said journeys ‘will take longer than normal’ and advised fans to plan ahead.
Turnstiles at Murrayfield will open at midday, before team arrival at 12.30pm. Teams will be out at 1.50pm, before kick off at 2.10pm.
Scotland beat Fiji 57-17 the last time they faced off at Murrayfield, though the last time the teams met in Suva the hosts won 29-14. The Nations Championship sees the world’s best teams from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres go head-to-head across two connected series: three rounds in July and three in November.
At Murrayfield on Saturday, the Fijian Fan Zone will give the opportunity to embrace the spirit of the day. At the heart of the Fan Zone will be a traditional Fijian Village, complete with authentic Bures, the iconic thatched houses found across the islands.
Fans will have the opportunity to receive temporary tribal tattoos from specialist artists, create their own Fijian-inspired tote bags, and dress up in authentic Fijian costumes. They will also be able to learn about Fiji’s islands, traditions and cultural practices
Ahead of Saturday, ScotRail said: “ScotRail is ready to help rugby fans travel to watch Scotland play Fiji at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, Edinburgh this weekend.
“Due to a recent fire on Princes Street, a part of the street remains closed. As a result, customers who normally travel to Waverley and continue by foot or tram to Murrayfield will be redirected.
“Journeys will take longer than normal, so please plan ahead, and consider using Haymarket station instead.”
Scottish Rugby added: “The Nations Championship sees the world’s best teams from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres go head-to-head across two connected series: three rounds in July (replacing the old summer tours) and three rounds in November (replacing the old autumn tests).
“The Fiji Water Flying Fijians are playing their three ‘home’ games in the opening rounds of this year’s Nations Championship in the UK: against Wales (Round 1) in Cardiff; England (Round 2) in Liverpool; and finally, their Round 3 match against Scotland at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. Although Scotland beat Fiji 57-17 here two years ago, the last time the two teams met – in Suva last summer – the hosts won 29-14.”
