Aston Villa’s under 18s have clinched the Premier League National Final – just days after they won the FA Youth Cup.
Jimmy Shan’s side returned to Villa Park on Saturday and again faced Manchester City, having beaten them 3-1 to lift the trophy on Bank Holiday Monday at the beginning of the month, when they emerged victorious thanks to goals from Cole Brannigan, Jamal Jimoh-Aloba and TJ Carroll.
This time, Villa’s young guns – with the same starting XI – edged out their visitors thanks to a second-half goal from Leon Routh, who was set up by centre half partner Carroll in front of almost 10,000 supporters at Villa Park.
The Premier League National win follows the aforementioned FA Youth Cup triumph and their league success – Villa secured the U18 Premier League South division title too this season to tee up this final against City, who are the champions of the north.
Aston Villa starting XI: Proctor, Rowe, Carroll, Routh, Fortes (Bloomfield 90), Borland, Hemmings (Quinn 85), Jimoh-Aloba, Burrowes, Brannigan (McWilliams 85), Cotcher (Mulley 90).
