BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Officials with Birmingham City Schools are asking families to complete student registration now so they can avoid long lines at the start of the school year.
According to the system, about 45% of students have been registered for the 2026/2027 school year, but that means nearly 10,000 students are not yet registered, as of July 17.
The first day of class this year is Monday, Aug. 10. Officials say completing the registration early allows the district to make sure instructional materials, supplies, classrooms, and other resources are ready for students on the first day of school.
“Families should not wait,” Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan said. “Timely registration helps schools finalize staffing, classroom assignments, student schedules, transportation, and other essential services before students return.”

If you need in-person assistance, you can visit your zoned school. Personnel are available to help you complete the registration process.

“Every family that has not completed registration should make it a priority,” Sullivan said. ”This helps our scholars enjoy a smooth transition into the next grade.”
