OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The top-ranked high school basketball recruit in Nebraska is staying in Omaha.
Westside senior London Dada, a four-star wing and the state’s No. 1 recruit, committed to play for Creighton men’s basketball in late May, becoming the first 2027 addition for new Creighton head coach Alan Huss.
“I get to play basketball in front of the people I always played in front of — my city, my friends, my family — so it’ll be nice,” Dada said.
“You don’t have to go super far”
Dada said the decision was simple: an elite program that is close to home.
“You don’t have to go super far when you’ve got a program that’s that good and it’s just 20 minutes away,” he said.
Family ties and an Omaha basketball foundation
Dada’s father, Tola Dada, played for UNO men’s basketball from 2000-04. He said Huss’ transparency stood out during London’s recruitment.
“He’s very honest in the whole process,” Tola Dada said. “He’s not going to tell you that your son is the next Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan. He’s going to be very honest with you.”
London Dada credited his father as a major influence on his game.
“He is probably the biggest influence on my game, just like the IQ standpoint,” he said. “We always watch film together. He just helped me, trained me from the start to where I am now.”
A longtime dream to play for Creighton
Dada’s connection to Creighton started years before his recruitment. He spent time as a ball boy at CHI Health Center, working baseline mop-up duty and imagining what it would be like to play there.
“That probably started it as, like, this is where I would love to play someday,” he said. “Being eight, nine years old, sitting on the court, basically just seeing them play in that environment — it was really fun.”
What Creighton is getting
Dada now has a full season to play at Westside, free from the stresses of recruiting. He’s excited to bring his skillset to the Bluejays.
“My size, my versatility and my ability to shoot,” he said. “Just play all spots on the floor. I can guard all positions. I can score from all places around the floor.”
His father agrees.
“They’re gonna see a player that’s confident,” Tola Dada said. “They’re gonna obviously see the shooting. They’re gonna see the athleticism. And they’re gonna see a kid that’s a winner.”
