Work has begun transforming an empty unit on Link Street, the stretch of shops that connects Bullring and Grand Central.

Signs have gone up at the empty unit beside jeweller Warren James, stating ‘something exciting is baking’.

It says that a company called ‘Ready Steady Make It’ is moving in, with little illustrations of mixers, rolling pins and ingredients suggesting we might be getting a new venue in which to try our hands at whipping up cakes.

While the website is yet to be populated with information, and the social media pages have not been used, the signage does say that it will an experience.

“A new baking experience event for friends, couples, parties and team days,” the sign reads.

The website says that the venue will be opening in autumn, adding: “We’re mixing up something brand new in Birmingham.”

But if it is a baking experience, then Birmingham does already have one of those – it’s down in Digbeth.

Big Bake Birmingham has five UK venues, including one on Floodgate Street.

There, visitors bake goodies in pairs under the watchful eye of a head baker.

There are 12 bake stations and everything is provided for those who want to take part in fun, Great British Bake-off style cookery.

Passers-by on Link Street have been invited to sign up to hear more about Ready Steady Make It, so we hope to hear more on the plan for it soon.

When it’s open, it will join the likes of Lane 7 and Toca Social, both fun leisure spaces that have a presence on Link Street.

This week, new Grand Central restaurant Sushi Tachi took down hoarding near Link Street revealing its new frontage.

The sushi joint will open to customers on Monday, July 20.

In a statement, it said: “London, we love you, but it’s time to take this show up the M40!

“We are incredibly hyped to announce that we are officially opening our first-ever shop outside of the capital.

“On July 20, we’re setting up home right in the heart of Birmingham at Grand Central!

“Whether you’ve been a fan from afar or are about to discover your new obsession, we can’t wait to welcome you.”
