A 72-year-old cyclist is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries following a crash in Cardiff.
South Wales Police confirmed that their officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving a driver and a cyclist on Dunleavy Drive, Grangetown, Cardiff at around 8.40am on Saturday morning, May 17. The cyclist, a 72-year-old man from Roath, Cardiff, has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, the police force has said. The force added that the driver, a 19-year-old man from Sully, Vale of Glamorgan and his passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Dinas Powys, Vale of Glamorgan, have both been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
South Wales Police has confirmed that their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In a statement issued later on Saturday evening, South Wales Police said: “Officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving a driver and a cyclist on Dunleavy Drive, Grangetown, Cardiff at around 8:40am today (Saturday May 17).
“The cyclist, a 72-year-old man from Roath, Cardiff, has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
“The driver, a 19-year-old man from Sully, Vale of Glamorgan and his passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Dinas Powys, Vale of Glamorgan, have both been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Our investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
South Wales Police Roads Policing Department is now appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with dash camera footage to contact them via 101 and by quoting the reference 2500155483.
