Nearly 10,000 Birmingham City Schools students still need to register before school starts

Brianna CookBIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Birmingham City Schools is urging parents to register their children before the first day of school.

According to BCS, there are still nearly 10,000 students not registered for this upcoming school year. That means only 45% of students are registered.

This has been an issue in the past for the district, which is why they are pushing for parents to get ahead of registration.

Every year, children must be registered even if they are returning from the previous school year. Registration includes confirming and updating guardian information like phone number, address, and email.

Lisa Thomas with Birmingham City Schools says registering your student sets them up for a successful first day.

“That’s what it’s all about: so that we are at the district level, but also at the school level, and can prepare for the students that we know are coming, whether they are returning or new,” said Thomas. “So we have the staff, the supplies, everything that they need, and start learning on day one.”

Registration takes a few minutes and can be completed online.
