Liverpool will see an overcast start before sunshine comes in the afternoon. The Met Office said temperatures will reach highs of 19C on Saturday, May 17 and lows of 9C.

It is set to be cloudy in the morning, before turning bright and sunny at around midday. Forecasters said there will be “plenty of strong sunshine” throughout the afternoon and will feel warm.

In the evening, there will be clear skies for Merseyside. Elsewhere in the country, Saturday night will see low cloud drifting inland from the North Sea, potentially covering parts of central and eastern England, the Met Office said.

Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Aidan McGivern, said: “On Saturday morning there will be rather a lot of cloud, particularly across much of England and East Wales, and that cloud will tend to retreat back towards the east coast during the morning, although a few patches will be a bit more stubborn, perhaps lasting until early afternoon.

“By mid-afternoon, it’s really that North Sea coast where we keep the cloud and a cool breeze, and that will make a difference as far as how the weather feels. There will be a lot of cloud and some murky conditions around the far north of Scotland as well.

“Elsewhere, once that cloud retreats, it’s clear blue skies across the board and in the sunshine, out of the breeze, it will be feeling very pleasant. In fact, feeling really quite warm for the time of year.

“We’ll see high UV levels virtually everywhere apart from northern Scotland, and temperatures of 23C, but more like mid-teens on the North Sea coast, or perhaps a touch lower if we keep the low cloud throughout.

“And then we start Sunday with more low cloud. It tends to creep back in overnight before once more retreating back to the east coast during the morning and into the early afternoon.

“And by the afternoon on Sunday, it’s a repeat of Saturday afternoon, clear blue skies for most, away from that far north and far east coast.

“Again, a cool breeze coming onto that east coast, but inland we’ve got some sunshine and some shelter from the breeze. It is going to feel very warm, with temperatures reaching the low 20s.

“Again, high UV levels, if you’re spending time outdoors, make sure you factor that in.”
